A Point A Day #1

Happy 4th again to those of us in the US of A.

I'm ringing in the nation's birthday by doing something completely unrelated: writing point crawl locations. I came across a series(?) of posts on Mini-settings for hexcrawls by Grendel's Stepdad (Killer name, by the way), and thought "that's pretty cool" so here we are.

This is really a chance to flex my creative muscles, as well as exercise the many, many hex generators that I have purchased, and so infrequently use. Specifically, I'm making points in a point crawl. For this use case they're not that different from how one would use a hex, but I see points as more flexible. I want to focus on making them as gameable (i.e. not overly verbose) as possible, while still being flavorful. To serve this, I'm using the Landmark, Hidden, Secret structure for the information for the location. Landmark is known for free, hidden requires risk, and secret requires risk with a chance at failure.

Also, once a week, I'll also throw together a usable town of some sort. I want this to be an out-of-the-box starter for any D&D sandbox campaign for the both of us. Grab any 3 points and a settlement for an instant RPG campaign.

Location: Woods
Type: Hazard

Forest of Lost Spirits.

Landmark: The area is known for its massive potholes. The dirt is loose, barely being held together by the roots of the trees, which often leads to erosion of the ground. Travelers know to avoid stepping far off the trails, but the potholes can form on the road at any second. Recently, there have been more of these forming, and the trails are becoming more precarious.

Hidden: At night, travelers spot mysterious lights in the area. Those who attempt to follow are often never seen from again. However, the beauty of the lights in the night sky in the forest is a wonder to behold.

Secret: The sprit of the forest has been caught in a hunter's trap. It's servants from the Fae seek the assistance of humans to release it, but they keep falling in the pits and sinkholes forming from the spirit's lack of influence over the area (2-in-6 chance of falling every turn they track. Double that if they run). Any who save the forest spirit, who takes the form of a man with verdant skin, are rewarded greatly:

Boon of the Green Man

Your blood starts to contain chlorophyll. You can photosynthesize, reducing your need for one ration per day. People may treat you oddly, however.

Weak Fae

Have scant ability to manifest in the material world, and appear as formless lights.
